When to Use a Jib Crane

A jib crane has multiple uses, but it’s also used for some fairly specific tasks. There are many benefits to using a jib crane, including the fact that it is much simpler than other cranes and can be easier to control than overhead cranes.

Not sure when to use your jib crane? There are plenty of situations where it is the most appropriate choice to move loads. While they can lift up to 30,000 lbs, jib cranes are still relatively simple.

Repetitive Movements

Are you moving items back and forth in the same place? If you have repetitive lifting to do, the jib crane is an excellent choice. It can often be found in production applications, where heavy items need to be lifted onto a production line consistently.

Tight Spaces

If you are working in a narrow space where a forklift is not ideal or you can’t reach the items to be lifted easily, then a jib crane may be ideal. It can work in very small areas, both narrow and low. Unlike the overhead cranes, this machine is best for smaller movements, though it can still handle very heavy products.

Lower Lifts

Sometimes you only need to lift items a short distance. This is often the case in factories, but even in construction, you may want to lift and transfer heavy items a short distance. If this is the case, it’s usually a waste to use an overhead crane, but the jib crane is perfect for this. It can move items horizontally or vertically but works well in smaller areas or for minimal lifting.

Wall Attachments

If you have a factory where you need to move pieces from one side of the room to the other, it’s possible to set up the entire process so the jib can slide back and forth. It travels along the wall on special rails and can lift products or items and move them around the room as needed. It’s a very useful machine for this type of work.

Jib cranes are often used in tasks that require higher efficiency with less extreme movement. You will find that there are several types of jib cranes, to select the one that will do the task best and then set it up. Whatever the application, you’ll find that it is very useful.
